Write an llms.txt file for your site

Tell AI assistants what your site is and which pages are worth reading. Fill in the form, copy the file, upload it to your root. Everything happens in this tab, and we never fetch your website.

  • Runs in your browser
  • Your site is never crawled or sent anywhere
  • Follows the llms.txt specification
  • Download a ready-to-upload file

1. Describe the site

The name is the only part llms.txt insists on. The summary is what an assistant reads before it decides whether to go further.

Required
Optional

One sentence. What the site is, and who it is for.

Optional

Anything else worth knowing: what you sell, how the site is organised, what to ignore. Markdown is fine, but headings are not allowed here.

2. Add the pages worth reading

Group them the way you would explain your site to a new colleague. Order matters: what comes first gets read first.

Each description is one line on what the page covers. That is what tells an assistant whether the page is worth opening.

Suggestions

  • Links: The file names your site but points nowhere. One link to your most useful page is a real improvement.

Save it as llms.txt and upload it to the root of your site, so it answers at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt.

What to do with the file

Generating it is the quick part. These three things are what make it useful.

  1. 1

    Upload it to your root

Save it as llms.txt and put it at the root of your site, so it answers at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. That is the only place anything looks for it.

  2. 2

    Keep it honest and short

Every link has to work and every description has to be true. A file that oversells the site is worse than no file, because it wastes the one chance you get to be summarised accurately.

  3. 3

    Revisit it now and then

Update it when the site changes. It is a hand-written map, not a feed, so nothing updates it for you.

Common questions

It is a plain text file at the root of your site that tells AI assistants what the site is and which pages matter. Think of it as a short reading list written for a machine, in Markdown, with one link per line.
